Professional, 1-on-1 Piano Instruction in Your Home
You no longer need to drive into Nashville to find world-class music lessons. Harmony Home Music was started by Luke and Hannah Sunderland with the goal of combining strong musicianship with personal teaching. Luke earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Belmont University and has performed in settings ranging from the Grand Ole Opry to live radio broadcasts. Hannah, an experienced educator, manages the program and supports families as they take part in lessons. Together, they built a structure that allows students of all ages to learn piano in the comfort of their own homes.
Every instructor with Harmony Home Music has been interviewed and background-checked. Lessons are available for children who are learning their very first notes, teens who need preparation for performances, and adults who want to add music to their lives. Murfreesboro also brings a large community of college students, many of whom study at Middle Tennessee State University. For those who want one-on-one coaching beyond what classroom instruction provides, our program offers private piano lessons that fit individual goals.

We Teach Kids, Teens and Adults
Piano Lessons for Kids in Murfreesboro
Children thrive when they start piano with a balance of structure and fun. Lessons begin with posture, hand position, and learning to read simple rhythms. Our teachers often use Bastien or Suzuki books for younger players, mixing them with folk melodies or favorite children’s songs. Flashcards, rhythm games, and short exercises keep them engaged, while parents appreciate that practice feels like play rather than homework. These early lessons give Murfreesboro children a solid foundation and introduce them to music in a way that sparks curiosity.
Piano Lessons for Pre-College Students
Teenagers often see piano as a way to express themselves or prepare for specific opportunities. Some want to accompany choirs or participate in theater productions, while others focus on advanced classical works. Our teachers introduce chord progressions, contemporary arrangements, and complex repertoire by composers like Grieg or Bartók. For students considering auditions or competitions, lessons include memorization strategies, performance coaching, and the confidence needed to play in front of others.
Piano Lessons for Adults in Murfreesboro
Adults in Murfreesboro often choose piano lessons for personal enjoyment. Some have a background from childhood and want to return to it, while others are complete beginners. Instruction may cover playing hymns, learning jazz progressions, or studying works by Debussy or Liszt. Lessons at home allow adults to work at their own pace without the pressure of commuting or keeping up with a group class. Instructors shape each lesson around the individual. Music is always accessible, no matter when a student begins.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
— Colossians 3:16
Qualified to Teach Beginners and Advanced Musicians
Piano Lessons for Beginners
Beginners of all ages start with posture, finger independence, and steady rhythm. Early repertoire often includes simple folk songs and short classical pieces that are both approachable and musical. Suzuki and Bastien books provide structure, but our teachers supplement with songs that match each student’s personality. The aim at this level is to create strong habits while building excitement about what music can become.
Piano Lessons for Intermediate and Advanced Students
Once students move past the basics, lessons grow more challenging. Intermediate pianists may work on Burgmüller études, Grieg lyric pieces, or jazz standards. Advanced players often study Chopin, Liszt, or Debussy, exploring tone color, pedal use, and interpretation. Our instructors coach students on stage presence and memorization for recitals or competitions. Each path is customized so that students stay motivated and continue to develop as musicians.
Why In-Home Piano Lessons Work So Well
Murfreesboro is growing quickly, and traffic around Memorial Boulevard, Broad Street, and the Gateway area makes travel time unpredictable. Lessons after school or throughout the day can become an unbelievable loss of time. Lessons at home are so much simpler, and they lead to better outcomes. Children build confidence on the same piano they practice on daily. Parents can observe lessons directly or listen from another room, which makes it easier to guide practice during the week. Adults and college students benefit as well, since scheduling at home allows them to stay consistent even when work or school gets busy.
What Students Can Learn: Technique, Theory, Improv and More
Lessons include scales, arpeggios, and chord progressions to develop technique. Ear training, harmony, and sight reading expand fluency. Classical players learn to shape phrases and balance voicing, while jazz players explore improvisation and comping. Pop and worship musicians often work on lead sheet reading, transposition, and accompaniment patterns. This combination of skills allows students to approach many styles of music with confidence.

Murfreesboro, TN Piano Lessons FAQs
How Often Should I Take Lessons?
Most students take one lesson per week, which balances new material with time for practice. Some advanced players or those preparing for performances choose two weekly lessons for quicker progress. We also offer 30, 45, and 60-minute sessions, so lessons can be tailored to age, attention span, and goals.
What Type of Piano Should I Have?
An acoustic piano offers the best tone and touch, but a full-size digital keyboard with weighted keys is a good starting point. The instrument should have 88 keys and a working sustain pedal. If you plan to invest later, our teachers can recommend trusted brands and local showrooms in Middle Tennessee to help you choose the right model.
What Genres Can I Learn?
Lessons can focus on classical composers like Bach or Chopin, jazz improvisation, worship, Broadway, or popular music. Many students combine different genres, which strengthens technique and keeps practice engaging. Our teachers adapt to personal goals, making sure instruction is both enjoyable and effective for long-term growth.
Do You Work With Adult Beginners?
Yes. Many adults in Murfreesboro start piano with little or no background. Lessons may include playing favorite hymns, reading chord charts, or working toward pieces by composers such as Debussy. Instruction is flexible, practical, and designed to fit busy schedules so adults can make steady progress.
What About Performance Opportunities?
Harmony Home Music organizes recitals twice a year at the Steinway Piano Gallery in Nashville. Students from Murfreesboro and surrounding towns can perform in front of family and friends. These events help students build stage confidence, showcase progress, and create milestones that keep them motivated throughout the year.
